Karen Wong is a strategic marketing professional with more than 15 years of experience executing integrated communications programs across a wide variety of industries including food, beverage, consumer packaged goods, healthcare and nonprofit.
Joining marlo marketing in June 2014, Karen oversees the strategy and execution of comprehensive marketing campaigns for an expanding roster of consumer brands including Narragansett Beer, Bully Boy Distillers, South Hollow Spirits, 90+ Cellars Wines/Latitude Beverage Company, Pretzel Crisps, WeWork, LimoLiner, Crazy Foam and Northbridge Companies assisted living communities. As Vice President, Karen develops brand-building platforms encompassing standout media relations, events, thought leadership, social media, digital marketing, strategic partnerships and more.
Starting off in the field of advertising, Karen began her career in New York City as a national broadcast buyer at MediaVest, developing high-profile media programs for Heineken, Amstel Light, Philips Electronics and Enterprise-Rent-A-Car. From there Karen expanded her focus to direct response and digital media planning at agencies ID Media and Ogilvy/Mindshare (then known as mOne Worldwide). Her client experience in the digital space spans product launches and awareness campaigns for beauty clients such as L’Oreal and Maybelline, luxury consumer products for Nikon and healthcare with Bristol-Myers Squibb.
With a data-driven approach to marketing, Karen shifted her sights to the world of public relations at GCI Group (now Cohn & Wolfe) handling product launches and crisis communications for global healthcare brands including Merck and Cephalon. Karen then spent six years at consumer public relations agency Maloney & Fox (now Waggener Edstrom Worldwide) as an Account Director overseeing some of the agency’s most prominent accounts including William Grant & Sons Distillers, Bacardi/Drambuie Liqueur and Tupperware Brands. As team lead, Karen executed tactical media relations programs, celebrity-driven launch events, large-scale consumer sampling/experiential events and major branding initiatives.
Prior to joining marlo marketing, Karen served as Associate Communications Director at advertising agency Droga5 New York leading client PR for integrated advertising campaigns and product launches for brands such as Newcastle Brown Ale, Hennessy, Coke Zero, Kraft Foods Group, Mondelēz International and UNICEF.
A Massachusetts native, Karen attended Smith College in Northampton, MA, studying Economics and Sociology. Upon graduating from Smith, Karen moved to New York City where she spent 14 years honing her marketing career. She now resides in her childhood hometown of Brookline, MA. As a food fan and certified BBQ judge, Karen spends her free time on the hunt for good eats and the perfect brisket.
