Are You Voting for the Republican, the Democrat or the Rent Is 2 Damn High Candidate this Tuesday? Hmm…

My interest in voting day began as a child, not because I come from a politically-inclined family, but really just because my birthday is in the first week of November and I liked that politics and I had that in common. But, over the years, I’ve also found that I have an odd obsession with hilarious candidates that don’t fit your run-of-the mill wealthy, Ivy-league educated contender we so often see on the ballot.

This year, after deciding that none of my home-state MA front runners were weird enough for me, I moved on to the NY gubernatorial race.

Jimmy McMillan, hopeful NY governor, is the leader (and seemingly sole member) of the Rent is 2 Damn High Party. Not only does he wear gloves on his hands constantly (because he was in Vietnam, goddamn it!) and has Hulk Hogan facial hair, this dude’s platform is solely based on one issue: rent.

His main concern is lowering rent rates because the people of NYC cannot afford a roof over their heads or to “eat breakfast, lunch and dinner” every day because of these high rent costs. Interestingly, it has been reported that McMillan himself hasn’t paid rent since the 90’s.

As a formal postal worker and martial arts instructor, McMillan is clearly highly qualified to work in politics. He has run for governor at least six times previously. Due to the spot-on performance by Keenan Thompson on SNL, McMillan’s popularity has increased dramatically over the past week.

So NY readers…will you vote for Jimmy Mac? Win or lose, things like this remind me of how much I ♥ NY.
