A Beer a Day Keeps the Doctor Away?
As my friends well know, I am not the biggest fan of beer. Maybe it’s because I have been drinking cheap, watery beers (enter, Natty Ice) throughout college or because I always seem to feel full and bloated after just one, but I try my hardest to avoid it whenever possible. After reading about a new study in the paper last week, however, I might just have to start drinking the stuff.
According to a Spanish study cited in the Telegraph, beer is good for your bones! Apparently, beer is rich in phytoestrogens, which keep bones healthy, and also has high levels of silicon, which slows down the thinning that leads to fractures. In other words, beer is an excellent way to maintain bone density and prevent osteoporosis. So much for that whole “got milk” campaign…
So the next time you’re out, do your bones a favor—grab a pitcher and drink up!
