Alex and Ani Bangle Bar Adds Some Customizable Flair to Boston
It’s been very refreshing to watch new stores open on Newbury Street after too many months of watching more and more ‘For Lease’ signs appear in vacant storefronts. Newest to the ‘hood is the Alex and Ani bangle bar. From a PR perspective…what is up?! I’ve heard very little (meaning nothing at all) about the retailer’s new Boston shop. From a buying perspective, my first thought was, “x-mas prezzys for the nieces…check and check!”.
The store is owned by designer Carolyn Rafaelian and features a diverse selection of necklaces, bracelets and rings, and even a few men’s offerings. However, what the company is gaining acclaim for are their customizable bangle sets. Metal bangles, charms, beads and gemstones are mixed and matched to your liking to create super funky stacked sets. Prices range from simple and reasonable in the $100 or less range to pricier for the more elaborate designs (set shown above, $468). Though you can go the girly, pretty route, I personally like the tarnished, jumbled, vintage-y pieces.
Also, Alex and Ani have a charity program, Charity by Design, featuring limited-edition charms to raise awareness and funds for designated charities. You can view the current charity charms online, though there are not yet any Boston non-profits…be forewarned Alex and Ani, I’m on my way with some ideas for partnerships. Welcome to the neighborhood!
