Sex has finally returned to the city — or at least to HBO Max! It was only a matter of time, but finally the announcement has come — Sex and the City is getting a reboot. Over the last year, it feels like every cult classic television show or film has gotten a reunion or sequel of some sort, so fans of the 2000’s hit show had long suspected that the show would be returning prior to this confirmation.
Earlier this month, original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis shared a teaser video to their social channels. Parker’s post is captioned, “I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now?” and received over one million likes in less than 24 hours. The actresses also linked to a new Instagram page for the series, which will be titled, And Just Like That, and appear on HBO Max as a limited series.
Original cast member Kim Cattrall, who played the sex-positive PR maven, will not be returning, which is disappointing but not exactly surprising. Rumors have swirled for years about Cattrall’s dislike of her former co-stars and desire to be left out of potential revivals. Sources have said that while Samantha will not be returning, they will introduce, “two new characters, strong and feisty women of color, who will help introduce the show to a new generation of viewers and more accurately reflect the world we live in”.
And Just Like That is slated to begin shooting this spring and marks the latest in a string of reboots for HBO Max, which also has Gossip Girl and True Blood revivals in the works. We’re ready to see what Carrie and friends have been up to all this time!
