Another Nail in the Coffin for iOS6 Maps: Introducing Google Underwater View

Image source Inhabit.com via Google Underwater View

Does the thought of putting on a bathing suit make you break out in hives? An irrational fear of sharks keep you from dipping your toe? Not to worry! Google Earth will do the swimming for you. Their new Underwater View splashes into the world’s oceans, allowing you to explore coral reefs from behind your computer screen. And, as an added bonus, it’s totally UV safe – no sunscreen required!

In the same way you have been able to virtually walk around a busy New York City block using Street view, you can now “swim” through the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia, along with many other locations worldwide. My only concern: can I still show off my Certified Scuba Diving License? (No really, can I?)

Google must be doing this just to sit back and laugh at Apple, who can’t even map the United States accurately. In the meantime, take a few minutes to yourself and enjoy the wonders of the world from the comfort of your own home.
