Dog: man’s best friend, ultimate protector, playmate and source of income?! Yes, your little fluffy can now earn you quite the fluffy paycheck. The year is 2019 and dogs are taking over the world of influencers (and our hearts).
One of the most famous pooches on the net, Doug the Pug, has a following of 3.7 million and has become a furry sensation. Meeting celebrities, owning a line of merch and even traveling the world, Doug’s fame has risen all thanks to his creative owners and a dog-obsessed world. If there’s anything we can learn from Doug, it’s that being Instagram famous is nothing to woof at. According to Forbes, Doug’s net worth is said to be at about $500,000 and as Mashable reports, pets with a large following can earn anywhere from $3,000 to $15,000 per sponsored post. It is also said that brands see more of an increase in engagement and visibility when working with pet influencers. Thus, the surge in dog/pet Instagram accounts will likely continue.
So how can you make this paw-sible for your furry friend? As Rover.com explains, there are some simple tips every rising pet influencer can follow when trying to make it big. Here are some of the most important ones:
1. Post Consistently
Your followers may lose interest quickly if you aren’t posting at least a few times a week.

2. Utilize Hashtags for Visibility
Hashtags increase your chances of getting seen by other accounts that may not be following you, so use them! Research popular dog-related hashtags like #tongueouttuesday and #dogoftheday.
3. Be Unique to Showcase Personality
Show the world why your dog is special by highlighting cute quirks or unique physical attributes.
4. Use Quality Photo Editing Apps
There are plenty of great apps out there that make editing photos a breeze. Try VSCOcam or Snapseed for filters, and Text2Pic for adding text and designs to photos.

5. Engage, Engage, Engage
Engagement is the key to growing a following. Follow other dog (and pet) accounts and comment/like on their content frequently!
If you think Fido has what it takes to leave the internet buzzing, I suggest whipping out the camera, grabbing a handful of treats and telling your beloved pal that fame and fortune are only a few posts (and tail wags) away!
