Are You My Daddy?
Picture this: it’s Saturday morning and the sun is
shining through your window obnoxiously beaming into your eye sockets; you wake to a pounding headache but are pleasantly surprised to see a friend request notification from that cute blonde you were speaking to last night (thank god because you wouldn’t have remembered her name if your life depended on it). No more tequila shots, you tell yourself. It’s okay, we’ve all been there at some point.
But what if you woke up to a friend request from your unborn child? Hmmm…wait…WTF?!
As reported by Mashable, in a genius campaign to spread condom-awareness, Brazilian agency AGE Isobar targeted young gentlemen, creating “unborn baby” Facebook profiles. By adding on “Jr.” in front of the person’s name, the unsuspecting male would receive a friend request from his virtual offspring along with the message, “Avoid surprises like this one” with a link to Olla’s website.
While the campaign violates several terms, namely Facebook’s policy prohibiting the use of fake profiles, it certainly landed the company a lot of international coverage and viral buzz. From AdWeek to Huffington Post, the news spread quickly.
It remains to be seen whether or not the company will be able to shake the negative stigma from those who felt the campaign was an invasion of privacy.
Creepy? Perhaps. Brilliant? Absolutely!
