Back In With Backpacks

I still remember the first backpack I ever bought. I picked it out of an LL Bean catalogue and it was raspberry in color with my initials embroidered on the front. Backpacks are a staple for students of all ages, from kindergarten all the way through college. But after that, most of us retire our old trusty backpacks in lieu of purses and briefcases.
I just moved into a new apartment about two months ago and in the midst of reorganizing my life, I came across an old backpack of mine. For some reason, I was compelled to take it out of retirement and now, I’m not sure I’ll ever look back!
As a sidebar, I am someone who loves fashion. Fashion is an outlet for creative expression, individuality, and there’s truly nothing like a killer outfit to really boost your confidence and make you feel #flawless. However, despite my appreciation for style, I’ve always put comfort first. I very rarely wear heals and when I do, they’re never over two inches. I celebrated (and continue to celebrate) athleisure and the entire movement to make women’s fashion more functional. After swapping out my purse for a backpack, I started wondering why backpacks have gotten such a bad rep (maybe people think they look childish or unprofessional?!), but if you’ve looked around lately, I’m sure you’ve noticed that backpacks are back and cooler than ever!
So, ladies — say goodbye to the black hole that is a women’s purse (I swear, it takes me ten minutes to find my keys) and the knots in your shoulders from straps digging into your skin, and get yourself a backpack. Here are a few of my favorite brands for backpacks, which I hope will inspire you to convert:
