Bros Icing Bros: The Meme That Keeps on Giving

Bros Icing Bros: The Meme That Keeps on Giving

From hard-partying Southern frat stars to buttoned-up Wall Street financiers, the young men (and the occasional woman) of our fine nation are partaking in the Internet meme du jour – icing. A new prank war sweeping the college and post-graduate aged community, Bros Icing Bros began in South Carolina, home of some of the most frat-tastic schools in the union, and spread from coast to coast in record time. The concept behind it is simple: creatively present a Smirnoff Ice to a friend (read: resting in a vat of protein powder, hiding in a desk drawer at the office, clinging to a toilet bowl with Saran Wrap – you get the picture), whereby the victim must take a knee and chug it on the spot. Fortunately, the rules permit countering an unwelcome icing by pulling an “ice block,” or presenting a Smirnoff Ice to the original offender.

So, let me get this straight. These people run around town with a six pack of Smirnoff Ice, plotting inventive ways to dupe their friends while constantly on guard to ward off impending attacks? Sounds like a lot of work to me.

The real winner in Bros Icing Bros is, undoubtedly, Smirnoff Ice, a drink that hasn’t been relevant since the Zima craze of the mid 90s. While we’re all laughing at the jackass chugging an Ice mid-workout, Smirnoff is laughing all the way to the bank.
