Cambridge is a Cabaret!
If you were lucky enough to catch Sleep No More or if you’ve boogied your way over to Club Oberon in Harvard Sq. to catch The Donkey Show, you too have undoubtedly been won over by American Repertory Theater’s Artistic Director Diane Paulus and her refreshingly funky approach to theater. Who doesn’t love Shakespeare when you get to bump up on glitter painted hot bods in hot pants, drink heavily and scream along to MacArthur Park without even raising an eyebrow (well…at least that’s what I keep telling myself!).
I was lucky enough to attend the equally entertaining A.R.T. annual gala recently that featured a sneak preview of their current production, Johnny Baseball (I’m not a sports fan, but a musical’s a musical and one of the singers was hot), and also teasers of the upcoming season’s planned performances. To my delight I learned that Club Oberon, come September 2010, will be transformed into the famed Kit Kat Klub for a production of Cabaret starring Dresden Doll diva, Amanda Palmer, as the club’s emcee. So, though it is a few months off, hide away the afro and bell bottoms and dig out the black sequins and top hat for what is bound to be a wildly entertaining experience of our favorite Liza Minnelli throw down!
Visit the A.R.T. website for purchase info for tickets to both Johnny Baseball and Cabaret: http://www.americanrepertorytheater.org.
