Five Fall Foods To Enjoy That Aren’t Pumpkin

Out of all seasons, fall puts the biggest emphasis on food — and overwhelmingly, pumpkin-themed food. You might love it, or you might hate it, but you can’t ignore it. According to a Nielsen study of the pumpkin spice economy, sales of pumpkin-flavored products amounted to $488.8 million in 2018, “an all-time high.” It’s the time of the year when everything is glazed with a little hint of orange, but if you’re already feeling pumpkin fatigue, here are a few alternative fall-themed foods that still allow you to share the sentiments of the season:

Spiced rum: It goes hand-in-hand with apple cider. Sparkle it up with cinnamon. Try mixing a rum raising bread pudding or rice pudding. See how you aren’t even thinking about pumpkin now?

Maple syrup: Goes well with both sweet and savory foods. Maple bacon is always a hit at fall festival booths, and maple-glazed donuts and cupcakes will fit your Instagram aesthetic just as well as pumpkin treats!

Butternut squash: To be fair, it’s basically pumpkin with more calories, but it gives another option! Fix yourself a butternut squash harvest salad bowl with kale, shredded carrots, pine nuts and brown rice.

Sweet potato: Hear me out — a sweet potato pie with a crusty top of apple and pecan or almond, or marshmallow if you want it double sweet, is anything but basic.

Caramel & apple things: You get the idea.

Bon pumpkin-free appetit!
