The Future is 550 MPH Away

Think about the Jetsons and their flying cars and Star Trek with the transporters (“beam me up, Scotty” anyone?). That futuristic technology feels lightyears away, but thanks to innovators like Elon Musk, the future is now.

Back in 2013, Musk released draft plans for the Hyperloop, a high-speed transportation system that could change travel time from hours to mere minutes. The plans were not patented, so was room in the market for companies to come in and try to develop the technology for this idea. One such company, Hyperloop One, is now on Phase 2 of this development.

Yep, it looks like Hyperloop One is well on its way to creating the “first new mode of transportation in over a century,” which is the company’s ultimate goal. The latest test-run had the pod travel almost the full length of the test track, a vacuum tube where the pod is moved along by magnetic levitation, at a top speed of 200 mph. With the goal speed being 750 mph, Hyperloop One still has a ways to go, but considering we’re in the midst of a transportation advancement that could one day be as commonplace as trains or planes, it’s certainly interesting to watch the technology develop into reality. Check out the video below for all the details!
