Get Me This Special Needs Dog NOW
I had a friend in college who once declared to a large group of people at brunch that he’d prefer to have a brood of handicapped children rather than able-bodied children. While the intentions were likely good (his arguments were so un-PC, I can’t even repeat them here), his comments were as poorly received as getting an order of eggs Benedict with a side of cancer. In other words, not good.
I may be going out on the same limb here—though I hope I’m not—but there’s a special place in my heart for handicapped pets. Whether it’s a one-eyed kitty, a three-legged puppy or a two-legged dog that wheels itself around on a canine wheelchair, I die for them. And I’m not alone. A company out of Nashua called HandicappedPets.com shares my love for special needs dogs and helps them out with custom wheelchairs and other devices to make their lives more enjoyable. Make sure you check out their Facebook page for videos and pictures of all of the pets they’ve helped out. Instant classic.
And if doggie wheelchairs aren’t your thing, maybe I could interest you in a blind Great Dane who gets around with the help of a—yes, you guessed it— dog? I mean, really, how can you not love these dogs?
My dream menagerie of handi-capable pets just got a little bit bigger. I just hope I don’t get myself into trouble for saying so.
