I See It, I Like It, I Want It, I Got It…On Instagram

If you’re like me, you probably spend a couple hours a day scrolling through the blackhole that is Instagram to see what’s new with friends, celebs, influencers and your favorite brands. Now, in addition to being a dangerous time-suck, Instagram has greater potential to do damage – but this time to our wallets. Instead of clicking “Shop Now” buttons that direct you to different sites to buy the products you discover and then envy from Instagram posts, soon you will be able to shop right on the app.
Launched with a beta of about 20 big brands including Warby Parker, H&M, Nike and Kylie Cosmetics, Instagram Checkout streamlines the entire shopping process. Instead of clicking product tags that take you to a retailer’s website where you complete your order, you won’t have to leave Instagram at all. You’ll be able to bring to life Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” lyrics (“I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it”): when you see something you like and want, you’ll be able to check out immediately, completing a transaction in about two minutes flat. To make future shopping even easier and faster, Instagram will store your billing information in-app. The app will also send you notifications about shipment and delivery, and you’ll be able to track purchases with a new “Orders” section on your profile.
In the age of instant gratification and convenience at your fingertips, this is a genius move by Instagram – even if it means testing all of our self-discipline to not impulse-shop and max out our credit cards on the app while we continuously scroll.
