Apps update all the time and try to tweak their algorithms to keep marketers on our toes. It almost feels like once we’ve gotten the hang of one algorithm and have optimized all accounts, another one comes along to spice up our lives ;). Instagram has shared some insights on the current algorithm, and we’re sharing some tips on how to optimize your feed for peak engagement.
Reels Reels Reels
With TikTok’s rise in popularity, Instagram added Reels to capitalize on the trend of 15-30 second videos. Instagram’s new algorithm rewards businesses and brands who optimize Reels with:
- Authentic content
- Educational value
- Product use
Some tips for using Reels:
- Use a cover photo from the content itself rather than an uploaded cover photo
- Provide closed captioning and use eye-catching titles
- Utilize hashtags that are relevant to your content and brand key words
Shares Mean More
Likes have been hidden from users for quite some time now. With the obsession of getting tons of likes gone, users looked to comments. However, this new algorithm prioritizes re-shares and saves over likes and comments. Content creators are still figuring out how to get their audience to re-share and save their content, but it all comes down to creating educational and valuable content that inspires uses to share with their audiences and save to refer back to later.
Content, Engagement, and Time
Finally, Instagram’s new algorithm, like ones before, watches what content you like, how much you engage with other users, and at what time you are most active. While knowing your audience plays a crucial part in succeeding in this area, Instagram’s built-in Insights are the key to actually knowing when to post, what to post, and who you are posting for.
New changes are made with every update, but for now, these tips can help take your brand or personal Instagram to the next level.
