Jewelry for the Crazy Cat Lady in Your Life
While trolling the interwebs for the latest in media news, I came across Cat Fancy, a magazine dedicated to all things feline (I also learned some useful, if a bit telling, stats about the mag—namely that 90 percent of the readers are women over 40). This revelation opened me up to the world of kitty lit—Cats and Kittens, I Love Cats and, last but not least, Modern Cat. One would assume from this extensive research that I’m a bit cat obsessed, which couldn’t be further from the truth; I’m simply intrigued by this subset of pet-friendly pubs. From a three-month feline-focused curriculum to sonnets about Siberians, I thought I’d seen it all until I found customizable hairball jewelry.
To celebrate a favorite event in every cat owner’s life, National Hairball Awareness Day, jewelry designer Heidi Abrahamson went the haute couture route to spread the word, creating one-of-a-kind pieces out of hand-rolled fur. These hair beads adorn baubles from necklaces to earrings and rings, so you can keep your kitty’s discarded mane near you always (cue the collective “awww”).
If this discovery has taught me anything, it’s that no cats will grace the inner sanctum of my apartment until I’ve exited spinsterville unscathed.
