Knock This Summer Out Of The Park

As we look ahead to warmer weather, we’re all grappling with the fact that summer will be a bit different this year. Al fresco dining on a Summer Friday isn’t yet a sure thing and beloved baseball games definitely won’t be looking the same. Overall, we know it will take some adjusting. And while, as Bostonians, we love our never-ending New York rivalry (missing our beloved Red Sox!), Yankee Stadium actually has summer looking up!
According to TimeOut New York, Yankee Stadium will convert its parking lot to the officially named Uptown Drive-In, a new carnival-esque event series where attendees can safely watch films and live entertainment from their cars on weekends throughout the summer. To make for a fun and seamless experience, the stage will be lifted so people can easily see the performances and audio will be streamed directly to people’s vehicles (hello 2020 technology!). Each event will also feature interactive games, prize giveaways and raffles.
MASC Hospitality Group, responsible for the Bronx Night Market and the Bronx Beer Festival, is the main curator of the series and hopes to make events as affordable as possible for New Yorkers.
While the implications of COVID-19 no doubt leave us disappointed, making use of a beloved NYC landmark in one of the coronavirus epicenters is something we can all get behind. It gives consumers something to look forward to, in a place so many will miss going to for the foreseeable future, it offers an escape for those looking to safely get out of their homes and connect with one another, and it provides a platform for entertainers missing out on work the past few months.
