A Little Love Goes a Long Way

If you’re even somewhat active on social media, you inevitably see sappy love and “feel good” stories pop up on your feed daily. Who doesn’t enjoy a good love story? With all that is going on in the world and permeating the news lately, it’s nice to see people going out of their way to do something nice, or express their love, for someone else.
IMHO, there’s nothing I love more than a story about a guy or gal doing something creative and adorable for his or her significant other. Maybe it’s all the Modern Love podcast listening I’ve been doing (highly recommend, BTW). Maybe it’s the fact that I am at the age where I am witnessing my closest friends vow to spend their lives together. Maybe it’s because I myself have found someone who perfectly complements me. Or, it could just be that I am a complete sap (and always have been). Either way, here are a few stories I’ve seen lately that I hope will bring a smile to your face:
The School Teacher Who Read Her Own Love Story
Teacher Melanie Goldsmith was reading a children’s book as an exercise at a teacher’s meeting, only to find out the book was written and illustrated by her now fiancé, Eric. You can guess what question was asked on the last page… Read about it here.
The Guy Who Made Himself a Meme
Photographer Jordan Destree knows a thing or two about taking a good photo. But, for he and his wife’s second anniversary gift, he was the subject. And, in true Ryan Gosling fashion (since he does hold a slight resemblance), Jordan presented his own series of “Hey Girl” memes, recreating the memes of Gosling that went viral. Check it out here.
Destree also pulled off an epic proposal to his wife a few years back in which he created a music video of their love story and played it for her at a private dinner before getting down on one knee. This one will give you goosebumps.
The Everlasting Love
Sometimes, there is nothing sweeter than a serenade. Take it from 90-year-old Paul Miller, who sang a heartwarming rendition of Bing Crosby’s “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” to his wife Imogene at their 70th anniversary celebration. You might want to pull out the tissues for this one.
The Guy Who Proposed Every Day for A Year
And, finally, an oldie but goodie – one of my favorite proposal stories ever to grace the interwebs. Dean Smith created a video of himself proposing to his girlfriend, Jennifer, every day for a year. For the actual proposal, he revealed the video (which is worth a watch the next time you have 15 minutes to kill).
While there are ways that you can (and should) show your love for others on a daily basis (*cough* do the dishes *cough*), sometimes a little creativity can go a long way, including make you go viral online.
