Marathon with a View
I’ve always been fascinated with bridges. Not regular ones; I’m talking really cool, bogus, insane bridges. Think the Seven Mile Bridge that connects the Florida Keys, creepy old railroad bridges that teeter sky-high above ground, and hell, even the Pell Bridge into Newport is awesome.
All these structures pale in comparison to the soon to be unveiled Qingdao Haiwan Bridge in China. Later this year, 30,000 cars per day will cross over the body of water separating the cities of Qingdao and Huangdao. It’s taken 10,000 workers four years to construct, at a cost of over $8 billion. Shit.
And that’s not the crazy part. How about running a marathon on this thing? ‘Cause you can. The bridge measures in at 26.4 miles, making it the longest in the world. Bet it’s an easier finish than Heartbreak Hill, too.
