‘Tis the Season for…Road Closures?

This is, perhaps, my favorite time of year. Between the rush of last minute shopping and the best Christmas Eve party out there (thanks, Mom), I’ve developed a little tradition for myself to get in the spirit: Millis Wonderland.

For the past couple of years, I have, on more than one occasion per week, driven to the Meehan Family Farm in Millis to coast through their outstanding light display extravaganza. Visitors come from all over the country to drive through the 40-acre farm that features over forty displays of different Winter Wonderland scenes. The Meehan’s creativity has been featured on NECN, Channel 7, and even won the Today Show’s national light contest “Al Be Home for Christmas” one year.  It’s outrageous, festive, fun…and closed.

Over 4,000 cars visited the display last year alone, so the rural road has undoubtedly experienced a bit of wear and tear. Due to a collapsed culvert, the town must repair the damage prior to it experiencing any more high volume. Without my sparkling tradition this year, my Christmas spirit has taken a beating. Guess I’ll have to double up on Christmas Eve’s baked brie and procrastinate even more than I already have on the shopping to try and overcompensate. Eek.
