Trend Alert: Mommy and Me Plastic Surgery

Trend Alert: Mommy and Me Plastic Surgery

As we saw on the season premiere of “The Hills” this week (don’t act like you’re too cool for school, we know you watched it) there is no way in hell Heidi’s mom would have joined her on the operating table to become the Franken-mommy/daughter duo. Snaps to you, Mama Montag. Unfortunately, many of her fellow reality matriarchs are succumbing to the disturbing trend of mothers going under the knife alongside their progeny.

Prime example, on last year’s “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” mother Lynn got a facelift, browlift and necklift and treated daughter Raquel to a little beak tweak. In a more recent instance, the New York Post reported that Alexa Ray Joel checked in to have a nose job while her mother, Christie Brinkley hopped on board for some facial rejuvenation, if you catch my drift. Don’t get me wrong — I’m all for a little nip and tuck when it’s a carefully considered, personal decision. In these cases, however, I can’t help but wonder if the choice was mutual or if one party simply couldn’t go it alone and strong-armed the other into a tandem procedure.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, there has been a 34 percent increase in the number of people getting surgery with a partner. I fear we haven’t seen that number peak yet.
