Phone Eats First

“Did you just take a picture of your dinner?” my cousin asked me last Friday night as we sat at one of my favorite Italian spots with an aesthetically pleasing plate of pasta sitting in front of me. “Yes,” I replied, “My Snapchat is hungry, phone always eats first.”
I don’t know when I started this dining-out ritual, but it could definitely fall under the category of “Molly’s worst habits,” along with boomerang-ing every time drinks get cheers’d.
However, living in the digital age as we are, and being the millennial that I am, I am realizing that this type of behavior is receiving more positive reinforcement than negative side eyes from my parents at dinner.
In fact, Cleo on South Beach, a restaurant located in Miami, has started a new trend: Instagram Butlers. Staff at Cleo take on a whole new role, acting not only as your server, but also as your personal photography assistant. The Instagram Butlers have been highly trained in all things lighting, angle, and composition, as well as having an LED light at the ready and recommendations for the most “instagramable” of dishes.
While we wait for this new service to hit the east coast, I apologize in advance to everyone who sits across the table from me and has to wait to dig into their tacos until I find the perfect filter.
