Two Words—Rachel Roy.
Lately, I’ve been seeing and hearing a lot about this fashion designer. A little online digging and a few “Rachel Rachel Roy” clothing purchases later, I get what all the buzz is about….she’s awesome! Read on for the scoop on this hot fashionista.
Born in 1975 in Northern California, Rachel, whose beautiful olive complexion and stunning dark features come from her Indian father and Dutch mother, was brought into the public eye through her courtship with hip-hop mogul Damon Dash. After a fashion internship and career at Rocawear, Rachel took hold of the reigns and launched her own fashion collection in 2005. A year later, she won the honorable Bollywood industry award for her work in American clothing design.
“Rachel Roy New York” embodies style and sophistication while still maintaining a very realistic and wearable quality. For a lover of black, white, cream and gray, I’m head over heels for her Fall 2009 collection. However, high quality fashion = high price tags. Hello, wish list, can you hear me?! The good news is that I can swing by Macy’s and pick up pieces from her equally cool “Rachel Rachel Roy” collection for more reasonable prices. This diffusion collection launched exclusively at Macy’s in August 2009 and is having great success with the 20-somethings who love trendy, quality clothes without the high cost (aka moi). In fact, the “Rachel Rachel Roy” dress I bought right after her department store launch snags a ton of compliments every time I sport it around Boston.
Whether it’s making a cameo appearance on this season of MTV’s reality show, The City (side note: she seemed totally down-to-earth!) or embracing the high sales of her “Rachel Rachel Roy” collection at Macy’s, Rachel is hot right now!
The best part? She’s totally media savvy with the whole Facebook and Twitter craze and frequently gives out great prizes to her fans. Whether you visit her online, (online = Rachelroy.com) on Facebook (Rachel Roy) or Twitter (@Rachel_Roy), just check it out! Seriously, what more could you ask for from a 21st century designer? Rachel Roy is a name to know.
