Rotten Apples

It seems like every day there’s an actor or politician accused of horrific stories of sexual harassment or assault.  With new names rapidly coming out, I find myself wondering – who is in the movies and TV shows that I am actually watching?

Rotten Apples is here to fill us in. The database allows users to search any film or TV show title of their choosing, resulting in a streamlined list of cast-members, directors, producers, or screenwriters that have been outed for sexual misconduct.

For example, if one searches for Home Alone 2, Donald Trump will appear next to the red headline, “Rotten Apples,” with a link to an online article detailing the allegations against him. But if I typed in the movie Bridesmaids (a cinematic great), it will be displayed next to a bright green “Fresh Apples,” as no one tied to the film is currently accused.

The creators say the goal of the site is to “further drive awareness of just how pervasive sexual misconduct in film and television is and to help make ethical media consumption easier. By no means is this site meant to serve as an condemnation of an entire project.”

And according to their official Twitter, there were over 2 million searches in the first five days after launch.

The more you know, right?
