Sandwich Flavored Spirits?

Sandwich Flavored Spirits?

So unless you’re living under a rock, you know that grilled cheese sandwiches are huge right now. They’re not just on the kids menu anymore, but instead becoming a gourmet staple on menus across the country. What I didn’t foresee coming though…grilled cheese-flavored vodka.

Time.com reported on the inventive infusion developed by New York and Seattle based restaurant Beecher’s Handmade Cheese. Apparently the process involves pouring 10 bottles of vodka along with 6 grilled cheese sandwiches into a plastic container. This concoction sits overnight and steeps, infusing the grilled cheese flavor into the vodka. It is then served with some basil garnish, vine-ripened tomatoes, and a splash of tomato juice.

For some reason I’m not totally grossed out;  this meal in a glass sounds to be the ultimate comfort drink. I’m always up for a grilled cheese sandwich so naturally I’m curious to see what the buzz is all about. If you’re curious, too, head to Beecher’s and ask the bartender to try the martini. A head’s up that it’s not on the menu—customers need to be in the know in order to try it. One thing is for certain—if I do get around to trying the drink, I’d like to stay in the dark about the calorie count…
