Sip, Sip, Snap

It’s safe to say I’ve consumed colossal amounts of wine since the pandemic began. Unashamed, of course, I’ve also learned through quarantine that I like to know what I’m drinking — tasting profile, average price, where I can purchase (maybe it’s the inner wine-lover my dad instilled in me, or that I’m now officially #adulting – SIGH).
Well, for all my fellow millennials, wine lovers or social media addicts out there, Snapchat recently expanded its visual search capabilities with the all-new “Wine Scan” feature in partnership with Vivino, the world’s largest online wine marketplace. Intriguing? Yes. Simple? YES. When you open the Snapchat app, all you have to do is click the “smiley face” on the main camera screen, tap the “scan” icon in the lens carousel, scroll to the wine bottle icon, and scan the bottle in your hands. That unleashes a plethora of useful information like the wine’s rating, tasting notes, reviews and even food pairings (highly recommend using before your weekly trip to Trader Joe’s). It also shares whether the bottle’s price is a good deal or not. #HELPFUL.
While there are other apps out there with these features already, this easy-to-use lens on one of the most popular social platforms in the world is definitely a game-changer. Who knew Snapchat would be helping us up our sommelier game?!
