Soldier of Love
She’s back — finally! After 10 years Sade has reemerged with a much-anticipated new album, Soldier of Love. And, within a matter of two weeks she shot straight to the top of the charts (surprise, surprise), ranked as the #1 selling album worldwide.
Apparently Sade only makes records when she has something to say — hence her decade of silence — but, with a track record like hers most bets were that her new release would deliver. In my opinion it does. Rolling Stone magazine’s Rob Sheffield also has been singing her praises and offering an interesting comparison to the Rolling Stones (the band) in reviewing Soldier. “They wait years between records, then deliver the same album they made last time — which means it’s unimpeachably excellent. Neither gets caught doing anything stupid like trying a new hairstyle or making a Balearic dubstep record. They stick to their strengths. And they both sing about the tender emotions, from Sade’s “Your Love Is King” to AC/DC’s “Let Me Put My Love Into You.””
One side note….ummm the title track video… I guess every diva is entitled to don a silver sequined bodysuit when the spirit moves her, but the girl better be careful as this time we’re gettin’ a little “Priscilla Queen of the Desert”. Not to mention the recurring ‘wild horses’…eeeek, a little too literal on that Rolling Stones reference!
