In this day and age of instant streaming entertainment, it may be hard to imagine a time when media content was way more in demand than it was on demand. At the risk of dating myself back to the dark ages (pre-Netflix…gasp!), there will always be a special place in my heart for the excitement of walking into a brick-and-mortar video rental shop and wondering with bated breath which physical copies of movies will actually be available to borrow. Sheer luck and timing were the decisive factors in whether your evening viewing would consist of the last snagged copy of the newest movie release…or the well-worn copy of ‘The Goonies’ for the millionth time.

Well, for those who will never know the sheer disappointment joy of the video rental store gamble — as well as those nostalgic for simpler times — the last Blockbuster shop in the entire world recently posted a listing on Airbnb for a movie night to end all movie nights: an end of summer sleepover at the actual store in Bend, Oregon.

The listing invites renters to fully immerse themselves in a store that takes 90s nostalgia to a new level with its fully-decked out era-appropriate décor and lineup of hit movies from that decade. It is truly an homage to a bygone era. All that’s missing is the sleepover staple Ouija Board.

All in all, this proves to be a fun marketing stunt during a time when folks are gravitating toward the familiar, sentimental, and homey, while still leveraging modern day convenience and technology in the form of Airbnb. Sign me up! And pass the popcorn.
