Who says rap is only for the youngins? In Japan, a group of 60+ year-old women are breaking barriers and becoming a viral sensation. The group is called Obachaan, a word that literally translates to “older woman,” and the average age of the seven members is 66 years old. They sing, they dance, they rap, they do it all!
Obachaan’s mission is to welcome the world to their city of Osaka. They are locally known as rap idols and are quickly making international waves as well. They recently recorded their first English single to welcome tourists to their city for the G20 summit a couple of weeks ago. The ladies spoke no prior English, but absolutely killed it. “OBA FUNK OSAKA” has gone viral, ranking in over 254k views at the time of posting. You can check out the video, and their other songs on their YouTube page:
Keep slayin’ the game ladies!
