The Only Reason Music Videos Should Be Made…

Clearly, I’m telepathic. Only recently was I excitedly telling a friend about the beauty of VH1’s Pop Up Video, and now, it’s been announced that the show, which hasn’t aired in ten years, is returning. You can thank me later.

For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about (where are you from?!), VH1 launched Pop Up Video in 1996, and each program played 5-6 music videos with little fact bubbles that literally popped up throughout each song. Whether about the singer, video shoot, or even an item visible in the frame, these “info nuggets” provided me with the ultimate entertainment: useless factoids to be regurgitated at random to whomever would listen.

This fall, after ten years off the air, 60 30-minute episodes are slated to occupy VH1’s lineup. Personally, I can’t wait to see what kind of dirt will be dug up on today’s artists. I mean, finding out that Rick Astley sang back up on the Lion King soundtrack in 1994 was a pretty awesome moment for the sixth grade version of me.
