The Wanderlust World of Instagram

You know the drill – you open that rainbow-hued, concentric square icon from your home screen and get to scrolling. Yep, I’m talking about Instagram. In what has become as automatic and routine as brushing our teeth and checking our inboxes, 500 million (casual) of us are logging in and engaging with the platform on a daily basis.
Be it for some OOTD inspo, drooling over the latest in donut design, peeping your bestie’s new baby and anything in between, Insta is the catalog of our constant thoughts, memories, dreams and experiences translated into an eye-pleasing, perfectly-proportioned digital grid. It has become one of our greatest sources of inspiration and connection.
As much as I love the access to others’ visual storytelling that IG provides, I admittedly do not follow thousands and thousands of accounts personally. Instagram, similar to other forms of social media, can very quickly become an overwhelming black hole, suffocating you with photo after photo and infinite captions and hashtags. In an effort to not feel completely inundated by content, I prefer to not actually ‘follow’ every single brand, influencer, personality and lifestyle account whose feeds I enjoy and frequent. Rather, I follow some and regularly ‘check in’ (i.e., type their handle into the search bar) with many others who always seem to be top of mind for me.
On that note, one of my favorite feeds to follow is @backpackersglobe, a curation of stunning travel captures from wanderlusters around the world. One of my favorite aspects of this page is that rather than focusing on one individual, it features adventurers and dreamers from every destination imaginable, allowing you to see our planet through their various lenses and eyes.
When you need to take a 30 second beat from reality, why not live vicariously and feel transported to the hot air balloon skies in Cappadocia, Turkey or the lush Ninh Binh Province of Vietnam?
If you’re like me and look to the ‘gram for bucket list planning and the access to a virtual ‘passion passport’, I highly recommend checking it out!
