I Think There’s a Lesson Here: Mexico Builds Theme Park Instead of Border Wall

While it doesn’t look like Donald Trump is getting that border wall anytime soon, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has been touting another grand construction project – a theme park celebrating the country’s famous Mayan culture.

The $840 million park will likely open in 2020 and will be named Amikoo, which means friend in the Mayan language. The 300-acre park will be situated along the Riviera Maya and divided into four distinct zones with rides that pay homage to Mayan characters and mythology, feature a 1200 guestroom hotel, wave pool, virtual tours of the region and a Maya museum, among other attractions. It’s going to be awesome!

“We’re going to compete with other [parks] up there [in the United States], and I’m sure ours will be better,” said Pena Nieto.

Personally, I think President Pena Nieto has the right idea. Cultural identity should be celebrated and shared rather than walled off into a small corner of the world. But then again, I’ve always been a fan of traditional metal & mortar roller coasters more so than the figurative international relations kind.
