Too Much Free Time? Discover Your Next Quarantine Hobby

I don’t know about you, but I’m beginning week six of social distancing and my days are starting to blend together. The weekdays are spent working from my couch interrupted by trips to the kitchen, bathroom, and if I’m lucky, a quick 30-minute workout in my bedroom. When the weekend comes, I almost miss the work day! All of the unplanned free time was nice for the first few weekends, but by week four, I really started to think about what it is I can be doing with all of my spare time.
If you’re like me and looking for a new isolation hobby, try one of these:
Paint Night In
I haven’t painted since I was a kid, but I ordered some paints and canvases from Amazon, and my fiancé and I had ourselves a “Paint Night” date! We poured ourselves a glass of wine, chose images we wanted to paint and voila! Here’s my masterpiece:
Learn to Knit
I’ve always been envious of those people who can knit their variations of the scarves that I spend WAY too much money on each winter. Now is a great time to learn how to do it once and for all! Try ordering a knitting kit like this one, and check out YouTube for thousands of free “how to” videos.
Train for a 5 or 10K
Ever wanted to run a local race but you “aren’t a runner?” Yeah, me too. With the weather getting warmer and the sun out longer, now’s the perfect time to become one! Sign up for a 5 or 10K in your area for later in the year and download one of the many available apps to begin training (I recommend Couch to 5K and 5K to 10K.
Start a Puzzle Swap
If you’ve assembled every puzzle in your house multiple times and are on the hunt for a new one to do, try arranging a puzzle swap with your friends. Safely distance yourself, of course, but weekly or bi-weekly you can all rotate and drop your puzzles off to each other.
If you’ve started other hobbies while in quarantine, share them with us — we’d love some new ideas!
