A quick scan through the Instagram Explore Page confirms what many have been fearful of for weeks: ‘dad shoes’ are officially on trend.

Balenciaga’s Demma Gvasalia launched this fad when he incorporated the shoes into his Spring/Summer 2018 menswear show (see above photo). Parisian dads walked the runway with their kids all while wearing designer normcore. With that being said, these shoes are not just for stylish European fathers. Models Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been spotted sporting the incredibly awful sneakers, but that’s just the tip of the ugly iceberg. The almost artfully clunky sneaks seem to be everywhere, with pieces popping up from Acne Studios and Stella McCartney. Even Gucci and Louis Vuitton have released pairs retailing for over $1,000.

While I do have a deep love for questionable fashion choices, I’m still not sure I can 100% get behind unironically rocking what seem to be overpriced New Balance 407s. Despite my hesitation, many style magazines have heralded ‘dad shoes’ as the staple sneaker trend for 2019, so it looks like they’re here to stay!
