Unplanned in Ogqunquit!

OgunquitI am a planner. Always have been, always will be. I enjoy mapping out my day, my weekend and my vacations. My friends consider me the ‘go-to’ girl for our weekend adventures, my boyfriend’s motto: “you like to plan, I like to pay.”

But low and behold, on a recent weekend trip to Ogunquit, Maine, I decided to not plan a thing. Yes, that’s right. I didn’t Google the best restaurants, famous breakfast spots or hidden shopping finds. I didn’t even book the hotel. After forfeiting my planning prowess, I realized that living in the moment wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!

Here are my unplanned, stumbled-upon, favorite finds in Ogunquit. It’s your choice; take my suggestions…or close your eyes, click the ‘x’ box and discover them for yourself!

309 Shore Road
Absolutely amazing breakfast choices! Bananas Foster French Toast (hello, fabulous!), Black or Blue – homemade lemon bread French toast, stuffed with cream cheese and topped with blackberries (black) or blueberries (blue) and variations of Eggs Benedict galore. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and if you’re a coffee addict like me, you are in luck. Upon putting your name on the wait list (during the summer, expect to wait!), you will receive a coffee mug to fill up at the café next door. What’s better than unlimited java as you wait for your table? Love it.

27 Beach Street
This store is Fabulous, with a capital ‘F’. Why? Well, for one, the owners are charming. Super helpful and friendly. Upon entering, I had no intention of buying anything and after learning all about their signature soy candles, I left wanting to buy every delightful scent. I had to settle on Spiced Pear & Fig and I have to say, it’s wonderful and smoke-free. The shop is adorned with lovely knick-knacks including dog toys, stationary, Stonewall Kitchen accessories and self-promoting “Spoil Me” t-shirts that ever-so-creatively include the store’s name on them. Definitely worth a visit!

246 Main Street
Desserts, cakes, cappuccinos…oh my! We settled on a huge chocolate chip cookie (I know, boring.) and it was perfect. If you decide to indulge, I’d recommend trying the Mousse Bombs (dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse covered in chocolate ganache and white chocolate) or their coconut covered balls…both looked far more enticing/interesting than my cookie. But hey, there’s always next time!

50 Shore Road
Our Saturday night dinner was perfect. Dim lighting, a people-watching view on an outdoor patio and most importantly, great food and drinks. Sipping their signature Pomegranate Martini, I enjoyed the calamari with banana peppers (my favorite) and Pasta Bolognese. As you can probably tell by now, I keep it simple when it comes to food, but regardless, it was full of flavor and plentiful. If you’re looking for a romantic, sleek dining experience in this quaint town, Five-O is your place.
