Valentine’s Day Has Been Cancelled

An era is officially over. Long gone are the days of flirting with your second-grade crush via cheesy uncentered words stamped on chalk-tasting heart candies. It’s a damn shame.
Necco (which stood for New England Confectionary Co.) went out of business last year, and while I wasn’t fazed by the removal of colorful eucharist-like “candies” from shelves, I never realized Necco was the genius behind Sweethearts.
To be honest, I hate the taste of Sweethearts, but like fortune cookies (does anyone actually like the taste of fortune cookies?), it’s the nostalgia and conversation that really get me going.
Sure, there are knockoffs, but they don’t have the same nostalgic appeal as the OG’s – they’re all like “Slide in My DM,” “Netflix & Chill, “I’d Swipe Right.” Okay, okay, I made those up — fitting all those letters on a heart would be tough — but the point is: Valentine’s Day is cancelled. No more Fyre Festival mistakes here — I’m calling it off with plenty of time to spare and my dignity intact.
Romance may be dead, but hey, at least we have these knock-offs to get us through 2019:
