Where TF is Billerica?
In case you’ve been living under a rock, my hometown of Billerica, Massachusetts has been trending on Facebook and was featured in a Buzzfeed article. Why you ask? We’re the second town to be hit with a Chipotle norovirus epidemic in the past few months. Want proof of this “trending” story? Voila.

For those of you having thoughts like “how tf do you pronounce that town?” and “where even is Billerica?” I have all of your answers covered.
Billerica, pronounced by natives as BILL-RICA, is a historical town squished in between other more notable towns such as Lowell, Chelmsford, Carlisle, Bedford, Burlington, Wilmington and Tewksbury. Although some may think that it’s a small town (because DUH you’ve never heard of it), it’s actually quite large boasting a population of over 42,000 with 7 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 2 high schools—one being a regional vocational school commonly referred to around town as “The Tech.”
To make a long history short, Billerica is named after the town of Billericay in Essex England and we’re the ONLY town in the United States named this because we’re #special. While Sam Adams and John Hancock hid from the British during the night of Paul Revere’s ride in Revolutionary War within the parameters of our town, our main claim to fame is Thomas Ditson, more commonly known as “Yankee Doodle.” To celebrate the tar and feathering of our great and famous resident, we have a Yankee Doodle Weekend / Parade every September. Yup, can’t make this up.
Aside from that brief history lesson if you’re still thinking “I know Billerica from somewhere…” I’m sure you’ve heard it mentioned among the names of Gary DiSarcina, Tommy Glavine and Danny from The Real World: Austin. All in all, we are – in most circumstances – a sleepy town North West of Boston that is currently under a norovirus epidemic. Pray for us. And Chipotle.
